බාශෝ ගේ හයිකු සිංහලෙන්

සරත් සැන්දෑවක

පත් හැලූ කැහැටු අත්තක

ලගී තනිවූ කපුටෙක් 

A solitary

autumn evening

විරහ ගී ගයයි විහඟුන්

තෙත්වෙයි මීන නෙත්

සමුගනී වසන්තය

Spring departs.

Birds cry

Fishes' eyes are filled with tears

වඩින්නේ තුරු හිස් මතට 
ඉන්පසුය  පොළොවට
වසත් පොද වැස්ස

Spring rain 
conveyed under the trees
in drops.

සඳ නැත මල්ද  නැත

තොලගායි ඔහු මධුවිත

තනිවම 

No blossoms and no moon,

and he is drinking sake

all alone!

නොමළෙමි !

සරත් සමයේ නිශාවකි

ගමනාන්තය

I didn't die!

the end of a journey

is autumn nightfall

සරත් සමයේ නිශාවකි,

කිසිවෙකුත් නොයනා

මේ මගෙහි අවසන.

Along this way,

no travelers.

Dusk in autumn.

සුහුඹුල් දළඹුවෙකි

තටු නොලද තවමත්.

සරත් සමයේ අග වුවත්

Deep into autumn

and this caterpillar

still not a butterfly
